Beginning of the Stomach Cancer treatment...

In our state of mind... we had come to the conclusion that it was cancer that it was just beginning and that we had to be optimistic about it. So before treatment, there were two options to choose... to be with an adult oncologist or a pediatric oncologist...

We decided to go for the pediatric oncologist, thinking that they would be able to assist her better because of her age. A part of me felt doubtful. As Dr. Ko ... the adult oncologist shook my hand to say goodbye in his office, the look that he gave me was a look of "I'm sorry."

My daughter began her treatment on Jan 24, 2015. She wanted to give it her all, because she wanted to live! It was a 48 hr treatment with two kinds of chemo medicine that she had to have. It was prepared by the adult oncology team and given to her in the Pediatric Hospital of UCSF. There were no high reactions to the chemo, or at least that my daughter show to us. She felt squishy and did not have an appetite after her chemo for about 12 hrs... and then she was her "usual" self. Then February came along... Se had thrush from the chemo... it was expected at some point and there it was. We went back for another chemo treatment on Fe.17-19th. She was doing as expected I guess.

I was too trustful in what the Doctors would say... because I did not know any better. March another chemo treatment and PET/SCAN Which brought some good news for us... THE TUMOR IS SHRINKING!

The one in the right is the first PET-scan and then the one of the left is the second where the tumor has shrunk!

My daughter was so happy in hearing such good news and we were too! March 4th-March 6th... on March 17th her white blood cells were low... yet another round of chemo... March 27th - March 29th. On this last one... they put a tube for her feeding. She was losing weight and she needed to maintain her weight in order for her to have surgery later on. She went through hell as they put the feeding tube. She did not complain of her treatment but she did complain about the tubing that they place on her. It was a completely ridiculous situation!

The nurse had already measured and put the tubing along with her file to go to the surgery department ... since they were going to put her to sleep in order to place the tubing right where it needed to be (through the nose all the way to the small intestine (entrance) ) When they brought my daughter back from the procedure she had this long, hard, unbendable tube coming out of her nose like an elephant. After when she was taken to her room... she got up her bed in a rushed manner and kind of dizzy she said, "Mom, take a picture of me like this, so when I get over this trial, I can say I survive all this!! My heart broke, in seeing her so upset and so unhappy with this tubing.

The picture above show the second time she had the tube inserted in her... the first time she did it with the nurse with a more flexible tubing but, since it needed to be in a certain part in her that's why they went and did it while they put her to sleep and came out with this "elephant nose."

Three times is a charm!! Yeap!! This was the tube that she needed to have and you can see that even though she looks super tired... she was such a good sport in letting them put it again. Love my girl!!
Then again --- the tube was short, too close to her nose, good thing that they had extensions. I thought it was totally ridiculous, due to the kind of hospital we were in, UCSF!
