What we found out...
October 21, 2014
Celeste was not feeling well, she started to vomit and her vomit was dark unusual than what a vomit would look like. I could see clearly she was in pain, shocked and stressed. The vomit appeared to be a dark brown and the flow of it was heavy. I knew this was blood as soon as I saw it. I panicked.
To be honest, I can't remember if I called the doctor or if I just went to the clinic. I was scared and I was concerned that my little girl was vomiting what it appeared to be blood to me. Dried up blood. When we got to see the doctor, she looked at the picture that we took and did a routine check-up. Then Celeste vomited in her office again. She said she was going to refer to me to Madera's Children's Hospital, that it would take about one to two weeks for the referral to take place. I couldn't believe what my ears were hearing! I felt so angry at her words and astonished what I just heard coming out her mouth. I sat on a chair and told her I was not moving from there until she gave me the referral to Madera's Children's Hospital. I was not going to move an inch! She came back after in 30 min at the most. On our way we went.
As soon as we got to the ER at the Children's Hospital in Madera. They took great care and immediate care of us. She was taken to a room and they started to make the procedures in finding out what was going on. In the ER room the doctor said, she was not going home until they found out what was going on with her and where was her blood going. She did not seem to be scared, she looked more than anything disappointed her sister was about to leave to serve a Mission in Montreal, Canada.
After a couple of days, they found out that the reason she lost a lot of blood was because she had two bleeding ulcers. Yes, two, not one but two. To top it off ... the specialist said he has never seen these types of ulcers in his 30-year career. We, my husband and I were concerned, but he said with treatment and surgery if needed it could be fixed. They also mentioned the bacteria H. Pylori, the doctors said that was probably the biggest cause for her ulcers. We were just relieved that it was something it could be fix.
What can I say. My little girl was upset. She hated the hospital food and the hospital is practically in nowhere land. There were no stores around the area, the place is practically hidden from civilization. It is a beautiful facility and the people, especially the nurses were really good and professional in their care. She was devastated that she was not going to be able to take her sister to the airport. She loved her sister so much. It was a really sad situation for her.
Overall, we felt that our prayers had been heard. That they found the cause of her anemia, pain, and fatigue. We felt relieved that she was receiving the treatment to treat the H. Pylori and to treat the ulcers. We were so thankful to the hospital staff for their care.
She was going to go home soon...
I had been with my daughter all this time in the hospital, thank goodness they had a sofa that converted into a small bed. I was grateful for that. The time came that my other daughter needed to get set apart as a missionary and I was going to leave my daughter alone just a brief moment in time...less than 24 hrs. The doctor said she was not ready to go back home. So I left her and hoped that she would be fine. Celeste did not want any other way, she did not want her sister to miss on her and me, so she decided it was best to be alone and for me to go and send her sister off. Our drive was about two hours away and at midnight my daughter called and told us that they were going to let her go or in another word she was going to be discharged. I was so upset, the doctor clearly stated that she was going to stay for at least two more days and now she was discharged in the middle of the night and we were all ready to be taken my daughter to the airport at 3:00 am. There was no way we were going to be able to pick her up. To make the situation short. We were not able to pick my daughter up until late evening the next day. She was not able to see her sister off. Made us all upset. The nurse kept telling my daughter when we were coming to pick her up all thru the day. I called and since I forgot to take the safety code they did not want to give me any information on the phone. The nurse actually hanged up on me. I can't believe I' m ranting about it right now. I confronted the nurse and her rude behavior and she said that she thought I hang up on her. Could not believe that after the hard work of many wonderful nurses this specific one and the doctor that did not discharge her on time were being so irrational.
Fianlly... going home and waiting for another specialist appointment.
